Natural frequency test for keel fin

Natural frequency test for keel fin

Vibrational movement means that a component moves following an oscillatory movement around its condition of equilibrium. The oscillation may be periodic, which repeats itself with the progress of time, or random. Each object has a unique vibration frequency depending on several factors such as: geometry, material, constraint conditions, type of applied forces, etc..
The knowledge of the natural frequency of each single element is used for the design and evaluation of the couplings between the different elements constituting a structure.
In some cases in high level regattas it is necessary to define the natural frequency of the keel fin, which has to meet precise standards set by Certification Authorities. In this perspective, our analysis procedure defines, through the use of accelerometers, the natural frequencies of keel fin in bending and torsion modes.
